Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Sunday A XI v BLACKHEATH on Sun 21 Aug 2005 at 1.30pm
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won 7 Runs
Match report
A close win for GP&R in an enjoyable 40 over friendly. Batting first, Park's openers Kliber and Tarr made a quick start but three quick wickets put the visitors on top. Churchill and Montgomery consolidated in the middle of the innings and with Collard joining Churchill in the 24th over, the pair put on 117 in the next 14 overs to allow Park to post a total of 209.
Good opening spells from Gavigan and Kliber took 2 early wickets and the introduction of Wall and Croft saw 5 more wickets fall as the visitors were in some trouble at 129 for 7 despite a rapid 45 from Khan in the middle order, Crofty taking four wickets including an excellent caught and bowled. Blackheath skipper Taylor then joined Cannon in a stand of 54 that almost took the visitors to victory and was only ended with a run out. Cannon continued to find gaps in the field leaving 15 to score from the final 3 overs with just 2 wickets left. Six runs from the next over meant just 9 more were needed but another run out brought Blackheath's final batsman to the wicket. With 7 runs needed from 8 balls a straight delivery from Collard took the leg stump to win an entertaining match. Thanks to Win D'Cruz for umpiring, Ron Montgomery for fielding and to Blackheath for supplying a sub fielder.
