Gidea Park & Romford CC Saturday 4th X1 v WALTHAMSTOW on Sat 18 Jun 2005 at 1.30pm
Gidea Park & Romford CC Lost 2 wickets
An excellent match that could have gone either way right until the end, and in which all players contributed. The day did not start well for Park as they lost the toss and were inserted when the skipper had hoped to have first go with the ball, however, things soon perked up as James Evans (65), Steve McCormack (28), Dave Pasola (21) and Chris Webber (70) all took full advantage. Gidea Park looked set for a score well in excess of 250 but a collapse saw the last 4 wickets fall for only 14 runs and the innings coming to a close after only 42.2 overs.
Even so, the total of 238 was still a challenge, yet one that Walthamstow looked very capable of pulling off as their openers, Symonds and Gymer added 74 and 66 respectively.Peter Thain made the breakthrough for Park and thereafter, wickets fell steadily with Durvinder Bhogal the pick of the bowling picking up 5 for 61. He was ably supported by Nicky Ford who took 2 for 53, but ultimately, the Walthamstow middle and lower order showed enough determination and squeezed home with an over to spare.
The game was a credit to both sides and to the 4th XI league that such an excellent game was produced on such a hot day. For Gidea Park it was disappointing to lose the game given that it was there for the taking and will be left to rue a number of catches that were grassed, however, the haul of 11 points goes some way to easing the blow.
