Gidea Park & Romford CC Saturday 3rd X1 v WOODFORD WELLS on Sat 30 Jul 2005 at 1.30pm
Gidea Park & Romford CC Won 7 wickets
The Wells won the toss and batted first on a slow, low pitch which gave very little help to the bowlers. Nevertheless, both Paul Winmill and Andy Jenner used the new ball to good effect and after 22 overs the visitors had only 45 for 3 to show for their efforts, with Park firmly in control. A change in the bowling produced a rapid increase in run scoring however as May and teenager Khan started to find the boundary regularly, adding 110 for the fourth wicket. May went for a stylish 69, and Khan soon followed for 67, but the remainder of the order took the score past 200 and a late flourish brought a declaration total of a par for the conditions 239 for 9. Dave Cobill picked up three victims for 59 in his 11 overs at the end, but the second half of the innings was a complete contrast to the first half.
Having left themselves to chase a higher total than anticipated, Park found Ron Montgomery in aggressive mood before he was bowled driving. the pace was picked up by 16 year old Sam Bragg in company with skipper Matt Burch and they were increasingly belligerent against some very average bowling. By the time that they were seperated the match was in the bag and Park duly completed a 7 wicket win with 14 overs to spare. Burch made 70 and Bragg a promising 77. The win keeps Park challenging for the title and next up is Brentwood, who are also well placed.
