WOODFORD WELLS v Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 3rd XI on Sat 28 May 2005 at 1.30pm
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won 5 wickets
Match report
There were three changes to the Park team on the morning of the match, which seems to be the norm at the moment, against a Wells team that were leading the division after two matches. The Wells batted first on thier own patch on a slow and pretty true pitch and were up against Paul Winmill in particularly good form, beating the bat and catching the edge on frequent occasions. At the half way point of the innings the score stood at 85 for 1, and with acceleration clearly being required by the batting team the fall of a second wicket brought in Tim Caban who proceeded to blast his way to 56 with eight fours and two sixes, well supported by Andy Watson with 54. The Park team stuck to their task however and fielded very well in support of the bowlers, and at the end and on a tiny ground a final Wells score of 240 was about 40 too few for the conditions. Wanger finished a 26 over stint with the figures of 4 for 70 (he deserved more!) and Mark D'cruz chipped in at the end with 2 for 22 off five overs.
Ron Montgomery and Craig Bray put on 33 in good time in reply before Craig was undone by a ball that kept low. Matt Tarr and ron then added 140 for the second wicket with no hint of trouble, Ron in typically robust fashion with eight fours and three sixes and Matt stroking nine fours and a six. They both departed within an over of one another but Lee Carter on his debut innings for the club, and Andy Jenner added another 48 before Tom Montgomery blasted 15 off 7 deliveries in a terrific cameo, leaving Jungle to hit the winning four with nine balls to spare and end on 37 not out. This was a good display by the team in a competitive division and keeps the team up with the pace.
Next week it is a local derby with Brentwood.
