Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI v HORNCHURCH on Sat 09 Jul 2005 at 11.30am
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won Won by 9 runs
Match report
Gidea Park lost the toss and were asked to bat first with what has to be for the club the least experienced first team to take part in a competitive league game.
Park were soon in trouble losing Chris Swainland , bowled by Darren Whitlock for 9 with the score on 31. Andy Churchill went next for 13 caught by Robert Rollins off the bowling of Wells for 13 and Collard followed soon after for only 4 bowled by the same bowler leaving Park on 73-3 off 24 overs as Hornchurch's tight bowling and quick over rate took grips. Meanwhile Chris Collier whose form this season has been outstanding was quietly going about his business and kept Park together. Rhett Fielke went for 24 after a partnership of 49 with Collier before being caught and bowled by Mark Whitlockwith the score on 132-5.Jack Kliber made his first batting debut for Park at the age of 16 and showed no worries about a very difficult and delicate position and managed to remain till lunch with the score at 151-5 from a staggering 49 overs, an amazing rate which left Park in a very difficult situation at lunch with only a maximum off 17 overs left to bat.
Chris Collier and Jack Kliber produced excellent cricket beyond the years producing a stand of 58 in which Jack Kliber was finally out caught in the deep by Robert Rollins off an Ian Flanagan long hop for a brilliant 44. Chris carried on his fine work in a stand off 36 with Phil Goldstone 24, who launched Flanigan over the screen for 2 fine six's in a very important innings for his side. Wickets fell cheaply after that but Chris Collier stood firm and a century was there for the taking, unfortunately he was to be dismissed stumped by Murry off the bowling of Skipper for a great and much valued 89. Park were all out for 241 after Andrew D'Cruz and Andy Berry took them passed the 240 for the 4th batting point. Sensible batting saw Park add an invaluable 90 runs from the final 17 overs after lunch.
It was Parks turn now to bowl 63 overs due to Horchurch's speed through their over rate on a now life less pitch Park and again got a dream start removing Flanagan, LBW to Khan for 0 and soon after Sweeny for 4 well caught by Kliber for 4 off Fileke. Parks opening attack produced great bowling to tie down Adrian Rollins and Scott Davis conceeding only 39 runs from the first 20 overs. Davis falling to Berry after D'Cruz took a great catch at mid wicket leaving Hornchurch on 44-3. Adrian Rollins was run out by Collard and now Hornchurch looked to be on the rails at 47-4 at tea. Collard removed Sealy straight after tea for 4 and with the score at 59-5 the game looked their for the taking.Robert Rolins and Paul Murray batted well and sensibly adding 111 for the 6th wicket before Collard bowled Rollins for a fine 74. With the score now 170 and Hornchurch needing 72 from 14 overs the game still looked Parks especially when Fielke dismissed Murray caught by Swainland for 55. Mark Whitlock then took the game to Park and the total loomed ever closer. Churchill ran out Skipper and Collard had Darren Whitlock LBW but Mark Whitlck still fancied his chances. Needing 11 from the final 2 overs Waheed Khan produced a dream over only conceeding 3 runs leaving Hornchurch needing 9 runs from the final over. Whitlock tried to put Collard over the screen and got a huge top edge sking the ball to point wherewicket keeper Chris Swainland made amazing ground and hung on to a fantastic catch to seal victory for Park in a great game of cricket well contested by both sides
