Gidea Park & Romford CC U16 v Bentley on Sun 26 Jun 2005 at
Gidea Park & Romford CC Won 21 runs

Bentley gave GPRCC their toughest game of the season so far and in the end were quite fortunate to run out winners by 21 runs.
Park won the toss and decided to bat first and were soon in trouble with both openers in the hutch before the score was in double figures. Sam Bragg looks like he has made the number 3 spot his own and together with skipper Jack Kliber kept the score ticking over nicely while still digging us out of a hole. When both of the boys were out in close successsion Park were saved by a good stand from Eddie Gavigan and Walheed Wain. When Walheed was out for 12 Park were 100-6 and still in a bit of bother. Eddie Gavigan then played a super innings including a massive 6 when he hit the returning opening bowler straight over his head. When Eddie was out for 47 there was still some work to be done but excellent contributions by Louis Stuckey and Steven Gallagher saw that the Park tail wagged and 196 off 38.4 overs was a good recovery.

The complete Park batting order was put under pressure for the first time this season and it was good to see some of the lower order batsman getting some good runs.

Parks bowling did not however really cope with the pressure as poor bowling saw Bentley race to 62-0 off the first 10 overs. Louis Stuckey removed both openers but at the 20 over stage at 98-2 Bentley were favourites to run out victors. Skipper JacK Kilber then pulled a master stroke by bringing on Matt Tarr and askimg him to bowl offspin. His first delivery was a nasty full toss that was hit high into the air and "safe as house" Sam Bragg got under it. Sam has been a fine example in the field all season with fantastic commitment and abiility. Skippwe Kiliber then brough Ravi Rajani back into the attack who took 3 quick wickets to get us back into the game. Ravi who had a disasterous opening spell of 4-0-29-0 but has a knack of getting wickets then bowled 4-0-17-3. Eddie Gavigan was brought back into the attack and had a much better second spell to finish with 8-0-36-2. Steven Gallagher than bowled us to victory by taking the last two wickets for just 10 runs.

Thanks to David Osborne for umpiring and to all who turned out to offer their support and experience (it does help!!!)

Close shave boys. Lots of lessons to be learned from this!!! Next is West Essex lets see if we can maintain our proud undefeated record (we will have to be a bit better than this to do so).
