 Volunteers in Cricket

NatWest CricketForce 2008 took place at GP&R over two weekends: 5th/6th April and 12th/13th April.

NatWest CricketForce is an annual ECB initiative that gives cricket supporters, their friends and family a chance to give something back to their clubs by volunteering to undertake renovations to clubhouses and grounds.

In 2007 over 1000 clubs took part and at GP&R we used the event to complete a number of important tasks around the club. On the back of the 2005 event the club was selected to take part in FUNdamentals, a funded scheme to introduce cricket to 6 to 9 year olds.

The following are examples of some of the projects club volunteers have given up their time to help with:

  • Paint and repair sightcreens
  • Clean and paint the pavilion exterior
  • Redecorate the Long Room
  • Renovate the balcony
  • Dismantle the old nets ready for the new net project

FUNdamentals

GP&R was one of 51 clubs (5 in Essex) identified by the ECB to develop new junior sections at their clubs focussing on the long term development of 6 to 9 year olds. CricketForce 2005 secured funding through Sportsmatch to introduce the programme which will involve developing partnerships with local schools and setting up summer coaching sessions.
